Memorial Weekend Highlights

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Memorial Day weekend! Since I just got back from vacation last Monday I was SO ready to just stay home and get some work done around the house.

The weather was absolutely beautiful all weekend long which meant it was the perfect time to start the yard work I’ve been itching to do and get my raised garden beds going! Friday night we built the first one to see how long it would take and it actually went together fairly quickly! I’m planning to do a full DIY recap this week so ya’ll can make one yourselves! I mostly followed a tutorial I found through Pinterest but ended up tweaking it to make it work for me.

DIY Raised Garden Bed

Saturday morning I headed to the farmers market to pick up some fresh produce for the week and also a few plants to get me started!

I got some kale, strawberries and carrots for the week.
And for my plants, chocolate mint, heirloom tomato, cherry tomato, purple jalapeno, mini sweet peppers, lavender and basil!

The rest of Saturday was spent prepping the ground for the garden bed, raking the pathway to the back garden and removing an old garden bed. PHEW! Tacos and drinks with friends Saturday night was definitely called for after that!

After grocery shopping on Sunday it was back to work finishing up the projects!

I added two more pepper plants; one banana pepper and one hot chili peppers!

(old garden bed completely gone making room for plenty of raised beds!)

The front garden bed next to the front steps looks pathetic right now but I’m working on slowly adding new flowers & plants to it. I planted the lavender in the middle so it can grow big and bushy and lined the back with Iris’s. Next up will be solar lights to line the pathway then some small flowers or small roses bushes to fill in the middle.

Today we built one more garden bed but I’m holding off on planting anything until I get some more veggies! I’m thinking Swiss chard or kale in this one!

Now time for a little Memorial Day grilling.. hot dogs and a berry pie on the Green Egg to end the evening, PERFECT!

Hope you had a fabulous long weekend!!
